Just eight months after Christian Eriksen’s horrific cardiac arrest incident during a European Championship group game, the Premier League and sporting world eagerly await his return.

Having signed for Brentford FC during the winter transfer window, Eriksen is now slated to appear for the club prior to end of the season. However, the Danish attacking midfielder is not being rushed back anytime soon by his new squad.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank revealed that the club want Eriksen back into match shape after his extended break from the game before he is set to play first-team football.

Fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), the former Inter Milan player was restricted from playing in Italy due to his new device and had been training with former clubs of his prior to signing with Brentford.

Frank commented that Eriksen should be ready in ‘weeks’ rather just days or months, adding that he is positive about the situation at hand.

Rumours of the Danes’ return to Premier League football has excited fans of the sport, alongside his former club and manager.

Antonio Conte, Eriksen’s former boss at Inter Milan and now coach of the midfielder’s old club Tottenham Hotspur, revealed that he wasn’t sure the Dane was ready to make a return to football but will be happy to see his former player back on the pitch whenever that may be.

The Spurs boss further added that whilst Eriksen is currently a Brentford player for the next six months after that ‘we’ll see what happens’, hinting at a possible reunion between the two.

Before any potential moves though, Eriksen will have to suit up and help Brentford fight a battle in the bottom half of the table.

Sitting at 14th place with just 23 points accumulated throughout the season, the Bees have lost five straight games in the league and are in dire need of a squad resurgence.

A comeback from Eriksen to his former self would give Frank and his team just what they are looking for in a potential relegation battle. But for now, Brentford and the footballing community will have to wait patiently for the anticipated return of one Christian Eriksen.
